Saturday, June 19th, became an emblematic and historic date. Then, 900 days of Mr. Jair Bolsonaro´s government were completed. The main balance of the neo-fascist administration was revealed by another disastrous number. On the same day, Brazil reached the dreadful mark of half a million deaths by covid-19.
The president could and should have made a statement deploring the 500,000 lives of Brazilians cut off by the disease and seized the opportunity to apologize to the Brazilian people. But he didn’t. He continues the criminal behavior of discouraging the use of vaccines, spreading lies and advocating so-called herd immunization.
On the same day, the Civil House of the Presidency released a document praising the government’s supposed achievements, cynically entitled “900 days: on the tracks in preserving life and the recovery of the economy”.
The text ignores the genocide configured in 500,000 deaths, delays in the purchase of vaccines, the war against governors and mayors against social distancing, the promotion of agglomerations, as well as mass unemployment, famine and falling incomes. “I would say that this document is gigantic shameless”, defined senator Humberto Costa (PT-PE).
But, in contrast, it was on the same Saturday, June 19, that the Brazilian people took to the streets in all the states of the federation and in the Federal District to express with all vigor the majority feeling in the country. About 750 thousand people attended the call of the trade union centrals and social movements for the protest.
The screams of “Get out Bolsonaro” and “Get out Genocide” dominated the main Brazilian streets and avenues on that emblematic day. Do not echo in vain. Covid’s CPI also advances in investigating the crimes committed by the current head of the Planalto Palace, whose mismanagement must be stopped as soon as possible for the good of the Brazilian people and nation, which is being mercilessly degraded and destroyed.
It is urgent to stop and this was the main message drawn on the streets on June 19th. Protests will not end before the protesters’ goal is achieved.
